It is a massive contributor to the debt Greece find themselves. Most of the stadiums are rotting down now because they are not used and maintained. The problem they had was building 15,000 seater badminton stadiums and then not playing in them after the games because no one is interested in badminton in Greece.

Greece spent a tonne of money without thinking about the consequences. Compare that to the games in Sydney, where they produced temporary grounds/complexes for the games that could be taken down after they had been used. It's awful what is happening in Greece with the athletes expected to compete in London having used poor facilities, and without any financial backing behind them because of the huge cuts made by the old governments meeting the terms of the EU bailout package.
