TOPIC: "The Club"

"The Club" 1 year 1 month ago #92950

I've noted a number of posts recently referring to "the Club" without them explaining what this means.

If you asked 10 Vics fans this question, it is likely that you'd get a number of different answers!

But some fans seem to suggest that they are prepared to give their undying allegiance to the "club" ahead of all else.

If they are referring to the 'current' legal entity that is Jim's wholly owned private company, well this dates back to 2007. Hardly something that you'd die in a ditch for, if I might suggest.

If they still hark back to the halcyon days of Mr Connett, then that one was set up in 2004. This is the one that Mr Rushe is having some difficulties with at present regarding the CVA payments.

If you are looking for the the most 'legitimate' club, then I suppose that the company that was formed in the early part of last century - which many fans were shareholders of - and that existed until it went into admin in 2003/04 is possibly the one that we could say was 'the club'.

However, even this was created some 30+ years after what I would suggest when the real 'club' was founded by a group of local lads who were attracted by the fact that they'd like to form a side that they were a major part of.

So, fast-forward 140 years. See any paralells.

As AFC Wimbledon proved when they were established, the 'club' is not the legal limited company.

No, it goes far, far deeper than that.

Unfortunately, this is another concept that Mr Rushe has failed to grasp.

We may have gone through 3 official changes at Companies House since 1874 but it is still the same club as formed in 1874. If the Trust set up a new club then that is just what it will be. It will have no links to NVFC or be able to retain the proud history our football club has.

Jim is just the latest of many owners and I will continue to support NVFC even under Jim. I for one would not support a phoenix club in direct opposition to NVFC

The history of 'the club'isnt at companies house, or in a title deed or any other legal document. Its in the hearts of us the fans. We 'own it' and always will do. You say a Phoenix club will have no connection with NVFC - maybe legally not but when you stand on the terraces with your fellow supporters of YOUR team and see the same faces you have done for decades ( and all the welcome new faces that will join us )you will feel the history of the cup runs of 76 and 2004 because you were there and part of it, of Wembley in 83 and the Victoria Ground in 84, of Orient, of Wycombe in the Drinkwise etc etc etc. You can not take that from us - we are the spirit of the club, we own the history and WE WILL CREATE THE FUTURE - whatever pathway we want to take.

Stand firm GREEN ARMY - stand TOGETHER and vote tonight with your head and your heart.

Spot On

I am not going to tell people how to vote, as the whole point is that everyone should make their own mind up but what I would say, is please think about the last ten years and then what would be best for the next ten years and long term future NOT short term glory

A phoenix club in direct opposition to the current club would have no connection to NVFC!

I am totally against the way Jim has run the club and over the last 2 years I have been very vocal with regard to how he has run the club, probably more vocal than anybody (If only people had listened to me!) but like under Connett I continued to support NVFC and will do until the end.

I will give my support to a phoenix club if that becomes the worse case scenario and NVFC dies but I would be totally against setting up a new club in the town while NVFC still exists (This would be no different than what those Kopite scumbags did in 1892)
