DISTANT VICS NEWSLETTER NUMBER 218
8th APRIL 2004
TEAM NEWS
Andy Ralph has returned from his loan spell at Stalybridge with an ankle injury sustained 2 weeks ago. It is, apparently, not an injury that will keep him out for too long. For the Stevenage game this Saturday Glenn Tolley is also doubtful after the Winsford game on Monday night. Steve Nicholas, on the other hand, could be fit for Saturday but both Gregor Rioch and Peter Wright are both suspended. Vics now have only pride to play for and the outside chance of finishing above Leigh who we play on Easter Monday.
CLUB NEWS
Steve Davis has left his community role at Vics and will now concentrate on his job at Hartford College running the Vics Academy side. The reserves won 2-0 against Bamber Bridge last weekend but the Academy side lost thewir final game 1-3 to Southport. The youth team have regained top spot with a 9-1 trouncing of Hanley Town. Dave Roberts scored 5 McGarry, Ennion, Swann and Bailey got the others. Vics are hoping to make some money on the draw for the Kia car which is being run through all the Conference clubs. Each club will draw out a winner who will receive 2 tickets for the Play-off final at Stoke. At the final the 22 winners will be entered into a second draw for the car. Buying tickets at a small club like Vics tilts the odds heavily in favour of it being a local winner! So, buy a ticket, or better still sell some as well! Books of 10 tickets are available from the club.
VICTORIA STADIUM
There is little to see in the way of work from now on as it is mostly focussed on the interior of the main stand. The concreting continues and the drains and concrete base forming the floor of the shower areas in the dressing rooms is now complete. All the drainage work in the stand is complete and the final area of the base is being concreted. The joiners have got the roofs on 4 of the 6 turnstile blocks. Electricians are still working throughout the ground
SUPPORTERS TRUST
The football club are looking at offering the trust a room under the Dane bank, next to the stewards room, to use as a base. Due to holidays and work commitments there have been no meetings this week but interest in joining the trust remains high and extra forms have been delivered to the club offices and to the site office at the Victoria Stadium.
SEEN ON THE INTERNET
Nationwide Conference Site 7/4/04 Northwich Victoria boss Shaun Teale still has targets for his team to achieve this season, despite their seemingly imminent relegation. The Vics have already seen the possibility of climbing out of the bottom three disappear, but Teale still hopes that his side can haul themselves off the bottom of the table by overtaking Leigh RMI. Although most at Northwich are resigned to relegation there remains a slim possibility that if they can finish 21st they can maintain their Conference status, because of the financial and stadium difficulties of other clubs. Teale told the Northwich Chronicle: "All we can do is overtake Leigh - and hope. "We have had a good week and we have not even played. Leigh have lost twice. We are still eight points behind them with 15 to play for and we have to go there - and suddenly we have a game in hand. "We have five cup finals left - that is the way the players have to view our remaining games. "If we can get off the bottom then we will have at least achieved something."
ROUND AND ABOUT
There is a Conference board meeting next Thursday which promises to be lively! No doubt the issues surrounding Margate, Exeter, Telford and the promotion from the Unibond will be on the agenda. For the second season running no Conference club will contest the FA Trophy final at Villa Park. Hednesford will play Canvey Island. Gary Hill has left as manager of Dagenham. He was due to go at the end of the season but after last week's display he left immediately.
