It's not many teams who complain about cup success, but Vics narrow win over
Hyde in the Cheshire Senior Cup earlier in the week has left them in a difficult
financial position.
When Witton were drawn at home in the next round of the FA Cup scheduled for
14th September it meant a fixture clash with Vics Conference game against
Woking. To make matters worse the next scheduled date for the Cheshire Senior
Cup (against Stalybridge) was week commencing 16th September - meaning we have a
clash with our league game against Morecambe. If this is postponed it would mean
over a month with no gate revenue.
Witton were agreeable to switching their FA Cup game but their opponents were
not. Woking were unwilling to travel up on the Sunday so it has been agreed to
reverse the fixture and we will now play Woking away on the 14th.
Further rearrangements have also been made for the following midweek. Vics tried
to arrange for the Conference game to be brought forward to the Monday and
Stalybridge to visit us on the Thursday. Neither team would agree to that
change. However, Stalybridge will now visit in the Senior Cup on Monday 16th
September and Morecambe will visit 2 days later on Wednesday 18th September.
Vics will eventually host Woking on 21st December. Should Witton win their FA
Cup game and be drawn at home there will be a similar problem when we host
Gravesend at the end of the month.
This Saturday Vics will meet Yeovil at Dorchester as they arev having their
pitch re-laid. Kevin Street is still doubtful as his knee injury is proving slow
to heal. Steve Walsh limped off on Monday night and Dave McNiven was injured
last Saturday. How they are progressing is not yet known. Almost certain to lead
the attack is new signing Jonny Allan, a 19yr old highly regarded by Carlisle
who had to release all non-contract players when they went into administration
in early summer. His well taken goal, soon after coming on last Saturday, bodes
well.
Vics will not be travelling down overnight, but setting off at 7.30am on
Saturday.
Vics youth team visit Chester, 11am kick off, on Saturday in the first round of
the FA Youth Cup. The reserves will continue playing games at the Drill Field
but are not allowed to admit spectators as the ground is no longer licensed. The
reserves drew their first game there last Saturday (1-1 against Burscough) but
lost 0-4 to a very strong Chester side in midweek.
The new intake of youngsters into the academy arrived this week and their games
will be starting shortly.
It is hoped that the new shirts will be delivered for sale on Friday afternoon.
If any supporters travelling to Dorchester wish to purchase one, then ring Dave
Thomas at the office on Friday 6th and order it and it should be possible to

arrangement may be possible next week at Woking as well.
The date of the hearing over the refusal of planning permission is believed to
be December 10th and the result should be out about a month later
Given the distance and the possibility that one of the intrepid reporters may
stay in Weymouth there may only be one match report this week - on Sunday. If
the first report is possible it should be out about 10.30pm on Saturday.
There was finally a winner on the Yankee this week (£1500) and 7 others received
£14 for a treble. It starts again next week at £500.
