Perhaps this is the lull before the storm, but there is very little team news
this week, just 2 weeks before the season begins.
Vics now have 11 players committed to the club for next season. They are Royle,
Rioch, Matthews, Ingram, Garvey, Owen, Blundell, McNiven, Devlin, Andy Taylor
and Maguire.
This still leaves some well known faces to settle terms with Jimmy but nothing
should be read into that at the moment. Jimmy says he may have another striker
by the weekend and has the option of taking a League club centre half on loan.
He still needs goalkeeping cover for Paul Gibson, assuming he signs, although it
is possible that he is still on contract from last season. We may be able to
announce the squad numbers next week.
Below is the latest update from the Board about our groundshare with witton and
developments over the new stadium:-
FROM THE BOARD ROOM
WINCHAM UPDATE
When it became apparent that the prolonged delays in the planning applications
for the development of the Drill Field and the Victoria Stadium caused
principally by council decisions would mean that we would have to ground share
with our neighbours Witton Albion it became clear that work would be necessary
at Wincham to bring the ground up to Conference standards and to satisfy Trading
Standards safety requirements.
The work and actions carried out to date by Northwich Victoria F.C are as
follows:
1) The installation of 10 new pitch perimeter gates - Cheshire Trading
Standards requirement.
2) The provision of 1 new turnstile and housing - Conference ground
criteria
3) Upgrade of the pitch floodlights to 250 lux. This has involved the
installation of 4 new cross arms, one to each floodlight pylon.16 new lights, 4
on each tower, 4 new control boxes and switch room upgrade. This being necessary
to comply with legislation and Conference ground criteria.
4) A contract with Simply Delicious Vics franchised caterer has been agreed
for the provision of refreshments at all our home fixtures. Refreshments will be
served from 2 of Witton's existing refreshment areas one of which has been
fitted out by Simply Delicious.
5) A plan of the ground has been produced as required by Cheshire Trading
Standards.
6) A seating plan of the main stand has been prepared for use by both
clubs.
7) The existing team management, officials and substitutes shelter into
which new bench seating has been added has been transferred from the Drill Field
to Wincham. (The foundations for this being carried out by Witton Albion). This
facility being a Conference ground criteria requirement.
8) A Stewards handbook based on the one originally in use at the Drill
Field has been prepared and issued by the Northwich Victoria and Witton Albion
Safety Officers. This document being a Cheshire Trading Standards requirment.
9) Finally during the close season the playing area has been prepared and
cared for by the Northwich Victoria groundsman who will continue to maintain the
pitch throughout the season.
During all of this work carried out by Northwich Victoria F.C. there has been
excellent co-operation between the two clubs, which has helped us considerably
in achieving completion against a tight timescale and our thanks are due to all
involved.
Meanwhile whilst we await the outcome of the Wilcon Homes appeal regarding the
Drill Field planning application work has continued in finalising the design
details of the VICTORIA STADIUM. This activity has principally concentrated on
the supply of services, electricity, water, gas and telecommunications to the
site, the overall electrical requirements including pitch floodlighting (which
will incorporate the latest technology the lights being mounted on 4 corner
pylons) and specification preparation for the playing area.
On site the access spur for the roadway to the Stadium located just beyond the
roundabout at the southern end of Wincham Avenue is currently being installed.
Ex-Vics defender Bradley Sandeman may return to the town from Hereford - but
this time signing for Witton.
Surrey Sports are offering 40-1 on us winning the league and 5-2 on us getting
relegated!!
Vics 4-4 draw with Tranmere last weekend would appear to have been the final
nail in Dave Watson's coffin as manager there - they sacked him today!
No winner on the Yankee this week, 8 people won £50 each for a treble.
There will be a match report on Saturday's game - I've had some offers to cover
for me - but the timing may be a little later than usual.
Tuesday's match report for the Witton friendly out about 11.0pm.
