DISTANT VICS NEWSLETTER

NUMBER TWENTY ONE                         JUNE 15th 2000

One big news story only, but what a story. The proposed move to Moss Farm is off and Vics have approached Witton for talks on groundsharing.

The Hartford - Moss Farm Joint Management Committee has said it is unable to accept Vics proposals for the new stadium. Cllr Redford said that whilst the proposal had some merits it did not meet all the management criteria. It was felt the financial commitment from the Borough and County Councils was too great.

This resulted in Chairman Rod Stitch writing to his Witton counterpart to reopen talks. Whilst not specifically stated this could only really mean a move to Wincham Park. Vics cannot afford to bring their ground up to Conference standard by a 2004 deadline. It would, apparently, be cheaper to bring Wincham Park up to standard to the benefit of both clubs. How this fits in with Witton having sold so much land is not clear. No further details are available.

A meeting for fans and an EGM has been fixed for 12th July when Conference chairman Bill King will be present to explain the Conference criteria for ground grading. Fans and shareholders may be asked for a decision, in principle, on the night. That should be a lively meeting!!! If Vics were to be relegated then they would not have to meet such stringent criteria, but the income would be reduced and it is felt that creditors will not hold off much longer.

Although largely irrelevant now, there is a strong reply from Vics to Cllr Woodhouse’s assertion that the first approach did not come from the County Council. Vics are adament that it came from a paid council official who is, therefore, a representative of the council. As such Cllr Woodhouse is splitting hairs and perpetrating an "outrageous misrepresentation of the facts."

At a time of immediate crisis it seems almost irrelevant to be talking about youth schemes, but it is a vote of confidence in the future of the club that the "academy course" at Mid-Cheshire College will go ahead. There will be 20 places from September this year and a further 20 next year meaning that, at any one time, 40 youngsters will be on the course. Hopefully some will progress through to Vics first team in time. Vics will hold a trial match in July to help to finalise this season’s intake.

Further afield the Football League has agreed to accept relegated Chester and the six teams who finished behind Kidderminster into the Autoglass Trophy next season. A second promotion place looks on the cards in the near future with a complete overhaul of the pyramid structure below the Conference also being looked at.

There is a sell on clause in Steve Walters transfer to Morecambe including a payout for Vics if Morecambe get promoted.

Mark Gardiner is back off his holiday this week so hopefully news of possible new players may start to emerge.

Finally, this weeks £500 Yankee winner is T. Evoy of Davenham and 6 locals win £60 each for a treble.
