1874 Northwich are calling for volunteers to help carry out ground improvement works at the Barton Stadium, Winsford, in preparation for the club's inaugural League Season!
Sunday 2 June 2013 (9am - 12 noon) is the first date that has been fixed with Winsford United, and we are now calling on supporters to volunteer their time and skills in order to assist the club in preparing for the new league season.
Whilst we already have in place an excellent facility at Winsford United, there is work that needs to be done pre-season in order to further improve on this. Essentially, we are looking for supporters to volunteer their time to assist with general maintenance activities such as clearance, general tidying up, cutting back overgrown vegetation, painting, etc, etc… There's plenty to be done, so please offer your hand and get stuck in!
For those who do want to assist, it must be pointed out that you will need to bring your own equipment e.g Shovels, brushes, cutting equipment, paint brushes, etc.
It has also been agreed that a representative from Winsford United will attend the Supporters Meeting at Lostock Club on Tuesday 30 May 2013. This will provide Winsford United with the opportunity to discuss in more detail the type and specification of works that need to be undertaken. This will also present supporters with the opportunity to meet with Winsford United and ask any questions that you may have about the stadium and the proposed works.
If you wish to volunteer and help the club on Sunday 2 June, please email 1874 Northwich at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will provide you with further detail in due course...
Many thanks for your assistance in advance.

Following a series of positive discussions with the trustees of Warrington based charity 'Ciarans Cause', 1874 Northwich are delighted to announce that we have agreed a link with this fabulous campaign.
On the 17th April 2012, Ciaran went out to play football with his friends. Unfortunately he didn’t make it to the pitch. He suffered a suspected cardiac arrest and, although first aid (CPR) was given within minutes, he sadly passed away.
Had a defibrillator been present he would have stood a greater chance of survival.
Since then, his parents Marika and Steff have established a charirty in his name - “Ciaran’s Cause” - who's aim is to raise funds to supply schools and sports clubs with defibrillators, so that hopefully another family doesn’t have to go through the heartbreak that they have been through.
For the next two seasons, “Ciaran’s Cause” will be 1874 Northwich's nominated charity and any funds we raise through on their behalf will go directly towards providing defibrilators for schools and junior football clubs in the Northwich area.
In order to help raise awareness of "Ciarans Cause" and its aims and objectives, 1874 Northwich are also delighted to announce that the "Ciarans Cause" logo will feature on the back of all matchday and replica shirts.
In addition, we will also be holding a number of specific fund-raising events during the next two seasons and providing free advertising for this superb charity
We woud hope that fans of 1874 Northwich and all followers of football in the Mid-Cheshire area will join us in supporting this truly fantastic initiative.

The next Social Event has been pencilled in for Thursday 30th May at Lostock Social Club starting at 7.30pm and will be a really special occasion as it will be the first opportunity for many supporters to meet the first-ever manager of 1874 Northwich, Ian Street.
Ian will be updating everyone as much as he can re his progress since his appointment he will also be involved in “A Question and Answer” session. Both Lee Duckworth (Player/Assistant Manager) and Matt Conkie (Player/Coach) will hopefully also be around to answer the many questions that fans no doubt are itching to ask!
The evening is intended to be a very informal night and as well as Ian’s attendance all your Board members will be there to (hopefully) answer any questions that you may have to put them regarding the more boring aspects of our fabulous new club!
Ian will also be making May draw for the 200 Club - and there are bigger than usual prizes to be won this month! So, it should be a great evening.
Make sure that you put it into your diary.

Although out new club won’t actually kick a ball in anger until later in the year, tonight 1874 Northwich scored its first victory when it beat off several other teams to lift the Witton Albion Football Quiz Trophy!
The team of Mark and Alan Riding, Chris Borley and James Wood – named the 95 percenters - faced a series of eight rounds of questions over a diverse range of football related topics ranging from football related songs to Mid-Cheshire football.
Trailing by 2 points at the half-way mark, the team went into over-drive early in the second-half by scoring seven out of ten in the specialist round about Witton Albion!
This caused a few red faces from the Albion camp but also some questions from the other members of the 1874 team about the amount of knowledge that one of their party knew about the Wincham Park outfit! Some mutterings about knowing your enemy seemed to satisfy their justifiable concerns....
The round on the team that we used to support produced the perfect ten and despite a rocky last series on general knowledge, the team cruised to victory by a five point margin.
The sweet victory on ‘Hun’ soil being enough, the 1874 side generously donated their winnings back to WAFC on the proviso that they try and provide sterner opposition next time – but then again, we’ve been asking the same question for over a century now!
A fine evening was rounded off by the 1874 team engaging one Mr Brian Pritchard Esq in some banter as well as explaining why, even though he is obsessed with NVFC / 1874, he had not been considered for the post of manager of 1874!
Seriously, it was a great night and thanks to all at Witton - particularly Steve Yoxall and Phil Chadwick - for organising and running such an enjoyable event and to ‘Pritch’ for being such a sport (as always). Hopefully this is something that we at 1874 can replicate in the non-too distant future.
